7 years ago, today... my Mother, who I don't remember, and my Father, who I never met, became uncaring parents of a litter of little softball heads at a puppy mill in Missouri. From those assorted odd looking welps came ME!
Fast forward a few weeks and I was wisked to a PetLand store in Florence Kentucky where I waited, mostly ignored, while some people I didn't know tried to make $1600 dollars to sell me into slavery! For six months I was cuddled and coddled by people I didn't know and put in large display cases with other dogs... all of us putting on an endless play for an everchanging audience we hoped would free us from the pet store and make us a member of their family.
I became the "Store Mascot" as nobody wanted to take home the ugly little dog with the scar above her upper lip. I thought I was ugly and unloveable... until I met Dear ol' Dad. Every dog hopes to meet their "one and only" to rescue them and love them as their child. Some of us get lucky enough to live the dream... I am one of the lucky ones.
I live the best life a dog can live. I was spoiled as an 'only child" for the first the first three years of my life... I traveled the country, seeing and doing things that other dogs could only dream about. I was pampered and put first and loved like no other dog could be adored.
THEN I was pulled into family life where I now live with the most interesting and fun group of oddballs ever assembled. Sure, I complain, its in my genes to complain! However... I wouldn't change them for anything. We are in orbit around each other, every day. I have the best Mom in the world, I have human brothers and sisters to care for me, I have Loki (my protector), the Bitty (my rival) and FINN! (my brother) all here to love me daily. I am the pack leader... a postion I never thought I would assume for any group.
Then there is Dear ol' Dad. Could I have asked for anyone to love me more? Who else would have put me first as many times as he has? Who else would cook my dinners every night for over six years? Who else would talk TO me, not AT me? Who else would care this much about the unwanted and forgotten orphan of two dogs I never really knew? He is odd, and interesting... round as he is tall... full of attitude and opinion... loving, gentle and kind. HE is my Dad and I am his "Baby May" from the first day to the end.
So yeah... Happy Birthday to me!! I beat the odds, found my "one and only" and I'm living the life, my friends! I hope you each have a slice of the Sophie life today... I hope you all have more fun and more treats and more joy today than you every thought possible. Thats what I'll do... today on my 7th birthday... and every day till the end.
My love to you all,
Sophie
